Safety and community guidelines
Last updated 5 October 2026
Every trip is shared with people you haven't met. Here is how SmyRides helps, and what we expect from everyone.
Verification
Before anyone can offer a ride or carry a parcel, they must:
- verify their identity through DigiLocker;
- pass a selfie face match with a liveness check;
- for drivers, add a valid driving licence and the vehicle's registration, which we check and remind them to renew.
Verified people get a badge. We never show anyone's ID numbers.
During a trip
- Ride and parcel codes. Riders board with a 4-digit ride code; parcels change hands only with a pickup code and a drop code, with an optional photo at each end.
- Live tracking. From Start trip to the end, everyone on the trip sees where the car is, and you can share a live link with family or friends.
- SOS. In Help & support, Emergency SOS puts a call to 112 (police, ambulance or fire) one tap away. When you're safe, write to us from the same page and we'll look into it.
- Chat or call. Chat in the app, or call the people on your trip from it. Your number is shown only to the people a trip puts you in touch with, until a day after the trip, and never to someone you've blocked.
- Check before you get in. Match the driver's photo, car and number plate shown in the app.
Women-only rides
Women can offer and book women-only rides. Gender for these rides comes from verified identity documents, not from what someone types in their profile.
Community guidelines
By using SmyRides everyone agrees to:
- treat people with respect: no harassment, threats, unwanted contact or discrimination of any kind;
- never drive or ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We have zero tolerance: report it and we remove the account;
- follow traffic law, wear seatbelts, and wear a helmet on a bike;
- be honest in listings, prices, reviews and parcel descriptions;
- be on time, and cancel early if plans change;
- keep chat to the trip, and never send sexual, hateful or violent content;
- use SmyRides to share trips you are making anyway, not to run a commercial taxi or courier service.
We review reports and act on safety issues within 24 hours: warning, removing content, suspending or closing the account, and reporting crimes to the police when the law requires. The full rules are in the Terms of Service.
Parcel rules
Send everyday items such as documents, clothes, books and gadgets. Never send cash, jewellery or valuables, medicines, alcohol or tobacco, weapons, flammable or hazardous items, liquids, loose batteries, animals, perishable food, counterfeit goods, or anything illegal. Travellers may look inside a parcel at pickup and refuse it.
Reporting and blocking
- Report a person, a message or a review from their profile or the chat. Reports come straight to us.
- Blocking someone stops chat and hides you from each other in search and requests.
- You can also write to support@smyrides.com. Police and other authorities can reach the same address for lawful requests.
